2011 Update :: Rices’ Radical Sabbatical

Yes, it’s been a VERY long time since either of us has written, and we are excited to share some new things with you as well as update you on what’s been going on.

We have been busy with basketball, my business, some flights and roadtrips, a bit of time at the beach, and more. The next post will include more about Tim’s team, so I won’t talk much about that in this post, other than to mention that the team is in the playoffs, with a 15-13 record and the next game is tomorrow night.

My business has been doing well, though it has experienced some major change in the past week or two. My business partner, Cassie, has decided to leave the partnership to focus more on family changes (she’s getting married this year) as well as to devote more time to her growing sideline business of sharing the weird/wacky/wonderful events off the beaten path in Colorado.

This change in my business has opened up some doors to new opportunities, and I am excited to investigate them as I continue to shape and develop The Collective Savvy. I’ll be sharing more in future posts, but suffice it for now to say that some really cool things are ahead that I might not ever have pursued, and I can’t wait to show you what’s coming!

In addition to the business changes, this past month has brought some new answers to some recent medical concerns and I am excited to finally know what is behind those concerns and begin a course of treatment that should alleviate the problems I’ve been experiencing throughout 2010. It will likely contain a few challenges, some significant expense, and some major shifts in lifestyle and thinking, but I’m eager to begin and thrilled to have finally found a great doctor who sees the whole picture and is ready to help me.

Since we began our RV adventure, I have flown back to Denver at least once a month for several days at a time. This has been necessary to meet with several of our clients and prospects, as well as to photograph a long-time client’s shop, and while it’s been fun to travel so much, those of you who know us will understand when I say that it has been a challenge for Tim and I to spend so many nights apart, and I think it has challenged our relationship as well. The changes in my business will allow it to be less tied to Denver and truly more global, and while I will be flying back there next week, I don’t anticipate flying back there for some time, other than for medical purposes.

On the 7th I turned 40 and am looking forward to what the 40s will bring. I really enjoyed my 30s, and I expect that the 40s will be even better, despite increased aches/pains and wrinkles/gray hairs. 🙂 For my birthday, Tim took me on a roadtrip to western Louisiana and Galveston, TX, to the beach over the weekend. We had a great time playing with Chase at the Gulf’s edge, and the photos below are from that trip.

My younger brother Clint, his wife Becky, and their 3 boys came to Texas for a quick visit this past weekend, and we were able to spend some time with them at the San Antonio rodeo. It was great to see them, and I think they really enjoyed trading the Fargo winter weather for Texas 70s! Then, on Valentine’s Day, we were able to take advantage of some free tickets to see Willie Nelson perform live on the Austin City Limits show…great fun!

Tim’s business continues to thrive, with new classes and opportunities being added each month. I am so excited for his success! Basketball season has definitely created more work for him, but it has certainly been worth it…he loves his team and parents, and they love him, too. He continues to teach for 3 universities around the U.S., and has the opportunity to add another school in early March.

We are planning to stay in Austin through most of March, and really take some time to explore the area once the basketball season ends. We have barely scratched the surface of this area, and would like to take advantage of the benefits that come from living in the live music capital of the U.S. Plus, there are plenty of Texas BBQ joints that we have yet to explore! So we intend to have lots to write about/photograph in the next month, especially. After that, we aren’t completely sure what will take place…plans are still being worked on. However, we’ll keep you posted so that if we are coming through your area you’ll know!

We hope you have a great February, and enjoy the photos!
