Well, we have camped once in our new-to-us Trailmanor, and will be spending a long Memorial Day weekend in it again! It was great to get a sense of what life will be like in that significantly smaller space! There is so much to do…so many preparations to make…so many details to decide and act upon in the short period of time left before we hit the road.
We intend to be much more free during the next phase of our life…free of extra possessions (though I’ll miss the double sinks and soaking tub in our bathroom!)…free of extra bills…free of the over-scheduled busy-ness of our professional lives. With that said, significant planning has gone into this adventure!
Last night we watched the sun set over the Flatirons from our favorite spot up on the ridge in Broomfield and mapped out a rough itinerary for the next 12 months. As most of you know, much of our location-based planning can change with the flip of a coin, so please realize that if your area of the country is not addressed in this rough plan that things can (and probably will!) change. Suggestions for things to see/experience and places to visit are absolutely welcome!
Ok. The plan is to leave Denver on June 28th and begin the trek to Alaska, with a possible stop at Glacier National Park in Montana.
July: We intend to camp in an RV park in the Anchorage/Wasilla area, though we haven’t yet determined which one. Anyone have recommendations?
August: This month’s itinerary is a little fuzzy (suggestions please!), but we anticipate driving back to the lower 48 during the first week with a possible stop in Bellingham, Washington, then spending the 2nd week in Cannon Beach, Oregon (one of our all-time favorite places!), spending the 3rd week in the Solvang, California area, and then driving the final week to either Denver or Minnesota.
September: This month’s itinerary is also a little fuzzy. We will celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary on the 16th, and are hoping to spend the first 2 weeks of the month in Europe, followed by 2 weeks in Vietnam (tentative at this point) as Tim teaches 2 intensive courses. We’ll have a long month without Chase, but I suspect he’ll barely notice we’re gone as he’ll be well-cared for by family and/or friends!
October – February: Not sure of the location yet, but Austin, Texas is looking appealing! Due to the family holiday rotation schedule, we intend to spend some time over the holidays in Alabama.
March: This month’s itinerary is really fuzzy, but we’re leaning toward a week in Alabama, a week in Florida, a week in Savannah, Georgia, and a week in Hilton Head.
April: Also fuzzy, but we’re considering spending the month in the Carolinas and Virginia.
May: This is as far as we’ve gotten in our discussion of locale for our time on the road, but anticipate spending the second half of the month in Minnesota, before heading back to Denver to assess what’s next.
So that’s it so far. What do you think?
