Friday Harbor and the 4th

0saves

Hope you had a great 4th of July! We did…we spent the afternoon and evening in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, and although we had to watch their fireworks show from the back of our departing ferry, it was a great time!

We enjoyed the 1-hour ferry ride from Anacortes to Friday Harbor, despite the chilly wind and overcast sky. Then we wandered the charming 4-block downtown area a bit before deciding to eat at Dos Diablos Cantina. The service was unfortunately really bad, but the food was good, and we proceeded from there to wander a bit more, stopping for some locally-produced ice cream (lemon-raspberry swirl for me, and pecan praline for Tim) and making our way down the various piers of the marina.

The town was having a “rock the dock” street party, but we decided to forego the $10 admission fee and just sit in the park overlooking the water and listen to their 70s/80s cover band do bits and pieces of “I Will Survive,” etc., as people danced on the dock.

We had heard that the fireworks show in Friday Harbor was one of the top 10 to see in the US, but unfortunately it didn’t begin until just after the last ferry sailing (the one we had to be on) left the harbor. So we watched them from afar, and it was pretty. Definitely not a top-10 show, in our opinion (even Grove City, PA’s fireworks were better!), but it was good to see them from the water. The return ferry ride stopped at 3 other islands before returning to Anacortes, so we arrived back home just after midnight, having had a great day!

Here are just a few images…I’m still not really “seeing pictures” everywhere (out of practice, I guess). Enjoy!

candy Thanks Happy! I think I just have been decompressing from all the preparation and leadup to moving, getting everything together in the RV, transitioning The Collective Savvy into 1 partner in Denver/1 partner on the road…etc. It’ll come back, and thank you for the encouragement…I can’t wait until I’m seeing them again too! It’s going to be fun!

Kimberly Oh Tim, Pecan Praline?!? Come on, you gotta try something with a little flair. I know Pecan Praline is a good ‘ole Southern flavor, but next time let Candy choose for you. 🙂

Bo Duke I liked the photos of the boats safely tucked in from the storm. This is the type of blog I’ve been looking for to post my trips and photos. What is the blog site?

candy Hi Bo. Thanks! It’s a WordPress blog, actually, with a custom theme. And not the WordPress.com site, but the manual installation from WordPress.org.
